Introduction

Everything happens for a reason are the words that will ring true with anyone who has had something happen in their life time that no-one can seem to explain or understand.  They are frankly the bain of any ones life who has heard these words on more than one occasion and in some cases in more than one day (yes i am one of those) and to be honest I would rather someone was honest and just said "it's all a bit crap right now".

To explain my out burst I am or was (am never really sure what to put) a mum of two until November 1st 2013 when my son died suddenly at the age of 21 months.  Ruaidhri was born on January 24th 2012 and it was then after him being taken to neonatal that we found out he had been born with a Congenital Heart defect (CHD you will see this a lot).  Which am gonna be honest until I had the little tubster I had no idea what one was, and thought it was just old people that had heart problems. .

It was whilst in a side room of the local hospital after him being taken to neonatal and me kept away from the happy mum's that the first Dr came to explain or at least try to explain what they thought was wrong with Ruaidhri's heart. Which was basically alot of long words I did not understand and stopped listening to after I heard the words open heart surgery. So like any loving husband that is not sure what to do with a very weepy wife he rang my mum and told her I needed her with no explanation then put the phone down.  He told me that my mum was on her way and that he was going back to neonatal to be with our boy.  Sure enough within half an hour of a phone call my mum was there ready to support me and be shouted out.  The first of which was the fact that she had had a curry the night before and stank like a takeaway (this is now a standing joke in our family). This by the way as ungrateful as it sounded was very much justified at 7am in the morning. Then trying to explain what was going on and how my little tubby very healthy looking baby boy who was almost 9lbs was being taken to a sick kids hospital because he was broken..The next few hours were long and drawn out with nothing to do but wait and wonder how this has happened and what was going to happen next.

From that day when we found out that he had a mix of two chd's(there are over 40) that was the day that everything changed and we started a new journey, one that we thought would take us over many years together as a family.
